Phoenix and the Dragon
The Legend of the Phoenix and the Dragon: Symbols of Balance and Transformation
The Legend of the Phoenix and the Dragon is an ancient tale that symbolizes the delicate balance of power, transformation, and harmony. The Phoenix, a mythical bird that rises from its ashes, embodies rebirth, immortality, and the triumph of life over destruction. The Dragon, revered for its wisdom and strength, symbolizes protection, power, and leadership. Together, these creatures form a dynamic pair, with the Phoenix's renewal balancing the Dragon's fierce authority. Across civilizations, this legend reflects the eternal cycles of death and rebirth, light and shadow, and the unity that holds the universe together. In Chinese mythology, they represent the emperor and empress; in broader folklore, they signify the elemental forces of fire and air. Their timeless tale continues to inspire with its themes of transformation, balance, and unity.
The Modern Day Phoenix and Dragon: A Journey of Resilience and Strength

Just like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, Liz's journey with Multiple Sclerosis began in her teenage years, yet she embraced every challenge with resilience and determination. Using the NeuroChange Method, she set her sights on achieving her highest potential in cycling, with dreams of competing in the Paralympics. Despite obstacles like wheelchair dependency, falls, and health setbacks, Liz’s strength mirrored that of the Phoenix, continually rising and transforming through adversity. But every Phoenix needs a Dragon to guide and protect, and for Liz, that Dragon was her coach, Steve. With his wisdom, leadership, and unwavering support, Steve embodied the Dragon’s fierce protection and strength, helping Liz reclaim her health and reach new heights.
Together, they competed in over four Paracycling World Cups, with Steve’s guidance propelling Liz to surpass her limits. In 2023, they proudly represented New Zealand and the USA at the Glasgow World Championships, showcasing the incredible power of transformation and determination—Liz as the Phoenix, rising again and again, and Steve as the Dragon, offering wisdom and strength to carry them through their journey.
